Self defense training places unique demands on your body
Self defense training requires a thorough, holistic approach to fitness. The areas of focus for training can be readily broken down into these categories: Strength, explosive power, endurance, and mobility. You can train more than one at once, but you should be clear about which one you are focusing on with any given exercise or session.
Be as strong as you can be
Being as strong as you can be will help you resist an attacker and supply more force to all of your movements. Explosive power is required to sprint, jump, escape or strike, and generally react swiftly to danger. Endurance gives you the ability to move for longer, and helps to handle the anxiety and adrenaline that accompanies being threatened. Mobile joints and muscles allow you to move quickly without resistance, stay relaxed, avoid injuries and recover better from training.
