Orange Belt Test:
We held another test Saturday March 13th, 2004, this time an Orange Belt test. Afterward I received an e-mail from a student who wrote about 6 hours of major pain and bruising, and something about flying contact lenses. Doesn't that sound like fun? I thought so too. Check the photo and the list on the right. It looks like everyone survived with a smile. Well, almost everyone, except for the guys who were trying to look tough in spite of their hurt feelings.

New classes in March: Sundays and Mondays
Beginning in March, we will offer Level 1, Ground Fighting, Strike and Fight, and fitness classes on Sunday. Check the schedule for times. We have also added a Pilates class on Mondays from 4:30 - 6 pm.

Special Rate Continued for March

Prepay 1 year for $999, get 3 months for free!

Imagine That
Recently I had a student in my Strike and Fight that hadn't been there in a while. In the past, even though he had every defensive technique down pat and reacted correctly most of the time, he used to be just a little behind and back on his heels. However, this night was much different. He was moving more sharply, with more balance and was getting a lot more counter strikes in. I asked him later what he'd been doing differently with his training to bring about that change. He responded that he'd been using some visualization techniques when training alone on the bag. He'd put an image of an attacker in front of himself for every combination. He moved more aggressively, moved forward more, and more realistically. So there you have it. Visualization works. It's a way to train when you are not here at the school. It's a great way to train yourself out of bad habits, or push past a plateau. Working alone with a bag, there's no pressure. You can place yourself in situations that you've had trouble with. You get to replay things as many times as you need to in order to feel like you've responded properly in the context of what you are visualizing.

Please keep suggesting good resources on martial arts training. Have a great month of training at KMSF.
