Proportional Training for Fighting
If you've been training for Krav Maga for a long time or as little as a few weeks, you probably have noticed that training for fighting is different than any other kind of training. There is a large domain of mental activity that must take place that is far greater than most other types of workouts . How much concentration does it take to run on a treadmill versus doing 360 defenses against multiple attackers?
Physiologically fight training requires very balanced amounts of strength, endurance, and flexibility. A feature of Krav Maga self defense classes is that you will get quite a bit of endurance work, and some strength, and some flexibility training in your classes. To fill in some of the other areas more thoroughly, try a KO Combo class or Bag class for some strength and cardio work, or try a Yoga class to emphasize flexibility.
Just like in fighting, the key is to have balance. If you focus too much on strength training, you may lose some speed and flexibility. If you only focus on endurance, you won't get the injury prevention and leverage advantages that strength training provides. Balance between being good with your hands, your kicks, and fighting from the ground is essential as well, in the street and as you progress and train with more advanced fighters.
It is our goal to provide you with as many of the tools as we can to be safe, strong, and secure wherever you might be. From self defense, to groundfighting, to fitness we hope you take advantage of the full spectrum of classes at Krav Maga San Francisco.
